Ninety percent of the time, if you make it beautiful, it will already be fast. So really, just make it beautiful!\u0026rdquo; - Joe Armstrong, creator of the Erlang programming language.\nI am a software engineering student at INSAT and a federated learning research intern at LaBRI. My main interest is distributed systems: infrastructure, algorithms, architecture, programming languages, and the engineering decisions that make systems scalable and resilient.\nI like working close to the boundary between research and implementation. I have worked on blockchain consistency in PBFT-based infrastructure, distributed computing for multimodal AI video processing, backend systems for production workflows, and federated learning simulations for Fog-IoT environments.\nI am technology-agnostic in practice: I care less about defending one stack and more about choosing tools that fit the problem. I enjoy understanding how critical software is built, why a language or architecture was designed a certain way, and how choices in data structures, algorithms, and system design affect performance, scalability, and failure behavior.\nMy goal is to build a career as a distributed systems engineer, ideally in teams working on distributed AI systems, large-scale infrastructure, or research-driven engineering.\nWork Experience March to August 2026: Federated Learning Research Intern, LaBRI, Bordeaux, France. Working on data and node heterogeneity in Fog-IoT environments for centralized federated learning. June to August 2025: Distributed Computing Intern, ImaginarioAI, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA (Remote). Worked on distributed video processing pipelines for multimodal AI workloads. 2024 to 2025: Junior Software Engineer - Working Student, BySur, Paris, France (Remote). Built backend services and LLM-based workflows, including RAG and document verification systems for the insurance sector. 2024: Junior Software Engineer - Working Student, Metadrift, Tunis, Tunisia. Built a custom ERP backend for stock handling, transaction flows, invoices, product lifecycles, clients, and analytics. Education 2021 to 2026: National Engineering Degree in Software Engineering, INSAT, Tunis, Tunisia. Equivalent to a Master of Science in Software Engineering in a five-year engineering program. Publications Zouaghi Mohamed, Addala Raed, and Sofiane Ouni. Impact of Parallelism and Transaction Execution Acceleration on Blockchain Consistency. Current Engineering Letters and Reviews, 2025. DOI: 10.2174/012666948X433384251126112321 What I Am Looking For I am looking for hybrid or in-office opportunities in the EMEA region, either as a PhD thesis candidate or in an R\u0026amp;D engineering role. I am especially interested in distributed systems engineering, distributed AI infrastructure, and research-oriented teams where correctness, scalability, and implementation quality matter.\n","permalink":"https://raedaddala.github.io/about/","summary":"Federated learning research intern at LaBRI and software engineering student focused on distributed systems.","title":"Raed Addala"}]
